Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) members detained six persons from Boirchuna border area in Thakurgaon's Pirganj upazila early today after they were allegedly pushed into Bangladesh territory.
The detainees include two men aged between 30-31, two women aged around 30 and two children aged 1 and 8, said Lt Col Abdullah Al Moin Hasan, commanding officer (CO) of BG-42 Battalion of Dinajpur.
He said a patrol team of Boirchuna Border Outpost (BOP) detained the six persons from near pillar no. 336/6-S at 4:20am.
Quoting the six, Abdullah said Indian police had earlier detained them from different parts of Mumbai.
Later, they were handed over to the members of Border Security Force (BSF), who pushed them into Bangladeshi territory, he said quoting the detainees.
Upon initial interrogation, it was found that the individuals had gone to India illegally through brokers about one year ago in search of work, Abdullah said.
Sources said after verifying their identities as residents of Narail district, BGB members will hand them over to Pirganj Police Station, which will then return them to their families.
