Five Arrested in Comilla Rape Case, Including Prime Accused

Published : Sunday, 29 June, 2025 at 9:57 AM  Count : 289

Police have arrested five individuals in connection with the rape of a woman at her father's home in Muradnagar upazila of Comilla, including the prime suspect and four others who filmed and circulated a video of the assault.

The incident took place on Thursday night in Ramchandrapur Panchkitta village. According to police, Fazor Ali, 38, forcibly entered the victim’s house around 8pm by breaking down the door and raped her at knifepoint. The woman, who had been staying at her father’s residence with her children for the past 15 days, filed a case with Muradnagar Police Station the following day.

Neighbors reported hearing screams from the house and rushed to the scene. They found the door broken and the woman in distress. Upon discovering the assault, they reportedly beat Fazor Ali and took him to a local hospital. However, he managed to escape while undergoing treatment.

Superintendent of Police Nazir Ahmed Khan said law enforcement launched immediate raids following the complaint. Fazor Ali was arrested around 5am on Sunday in the Sayedabad area of Dhaka and was brought back to Comilla for legal proceedings.

In addition to Fazor Ali, four other men—Md Sumon, Ramzan Ali, Md Arif, and Md Anik—were arrested for filming the assault and sharing the footage on social media. A 51-second video showing the victim partially undressed and being assaulted had gone viral, prompting public outrage.

“These individuals not only failed to help the victim but instead violated her further by recording and distributing the video,” said Superintendent Khan. “All five are currently in police custody. Legal proceedings are underway under the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act.”

The video’s circulation has raised concerns over digital abuse and the secondary trauma faced by victims of sexual violence. Police have warned that anyone involved in sharing the video may face criminal charges. The investigation is ongoing.
