2 killed as bus crashes into ditch in Tangail

Two people were killed and at least 10 others injured after a bus plunged into a roadside ditch beside the Tangail-Jamalpur regional highway in Tangail's Kalihati upazila today.

The victims are S Alam, 70, of Satiachara village in Tangail's Mirzapur upazila, and Abdus Salam, 45, of Hamidpur Ghosaibari village in Ghatail upazila of the same district.

Sub-Inspector Kamrul Hasan of Madhupur (Elenga) Highway Police Outpost said the Mymensingh-bound Prantik Super Paribahan bus coming from Tangail plunged into a ditch in Mulia area this afternoon after the bus driver lost control over the steering and hit an electric pole.

An electric wire fell on the bus, electrocuting one passenger to death. Another passenger died after being crushed inside the vehicle, the police official added.

At least 10 people were injured in the accident, said the SI.

Locals rescued the injured sent them to Tangail General Hospital.
