Jamalpur-Madarganj connecting road collapses, no initiative for renovation

A part of the approach road of the bridge built on the Jorkhali to Gunaritala road in Gunaritala union of Madarganj upazila of Jamalpur has collapsed due to rain. Although the connecting road of the bridge collapsed about 5 months ago, no action has been taken by the authorities till the writing of this report.

40,000 people from 20 villages, including vehicles, travel on this road every day at risk. Students of several educational institutions are also traveling at risk. Major accidents can happen at any time. That is why the locals have demanded the immediate renovation of the connecting road.

According to the Madarganj Upazila Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) office, the bridge was constructed in the Charband area of ​​the Jorkhali Bazar to Gunaritala Bazar road in Gunaritala union of the upazila in the 2018-19 fiscal year.

On the spot, it was seen that the connecting road on the south side of the bridge has collapsed. In addition, the block that bound the connecting road of the bridge has moved. Drivers of various vehicles are crossing this collapsed section with caution, taking risks.

40,000 people from 20 villages travel on this road. We have to travel at the risk of our lives every day. Therefore, the local people are demanding that the authorities repair the road quickly.

Faridul Islam, acting principal of Madarganj Gunaritola High School, said that the students and staff of the school have to travel on this road at great risk. A major accident can happen at any time. But despite this problem for 5 months, the authorities have not yet taken action. We are demanding that action be taken before a major accident occurs.

When asked about this, Upazila Engineer Golam Kibria Tamal said that a part of the approach on the south side of the bridge built in the Charband area of ​​the Jorkhali Bazar-Gunaritala road has collapsed due to recent rain. We have inspected the spot. The problem will be resolved as soon as possible.
