Two teenagers were killed after a truck hit their bicycle on the Boda-Debiganj road at the Laxsmirhat Chartola intersection in Debiganj upazila of Panchagarh last night.

The deceased were identified as Sanjoy Chandra Roy, 14, son of Raj Kumar Roy, and Anik Chandra Roy, 14, son of Atul Chandra Roy. They were residents of Pamuli Bhullipara village.

Sanjoy was a class eight student at a local high school, while Anik worked at a local workshop.

Soyel Rana, officer-in-charge of Debiganj Police Station, said the accident occurred around 8:00pm when a stone-laden truck heading towards Debiganj ran over the boys from behind while they were returning home on a bicycle from Laxsmirhat Bazar.

Locals took them to Debiganj Upazila Health Complex, where doctors declared them dead.

The truck was intercepted by locals, who caught the driver, Abdul Halim, 60, and his helper, Jahid Hasan, and handed them over to the police.

Anik's uncle, Doyal Chandra Roy, filed a case under the Road Transport Act with Debiganj Police Station.

The two arrestees were produced before a Panchagarh court this afternoon. The magistrate later sent them to jail, said the OC.
