A woman named Ferdousi Ara was hacked to death over a land dispute in Bhurbhuria village of Bancharampur in Brahmanbaria. She was taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
The incident took place in the Vurvuria West neighborhood on Tuesday (April 22) morning. The matter came to the attention of the media on Friday (April 25).
After the incident, Ferdousi Begum's husband Rafiqul Islam filed a complaint with Bancharampur Model Police Station, naming two people.
The accused are Samsun Nahar, wife of Ripon Mia of Bhurbhuria village, and Ripon Mia's son Arafat Ahmed.
According to the police complaint, the accused had been trying to seize the land of Rafiqul Islam and Ferdousi Begum for a long time. When they resisted, they insulted them, came to their homes, beat them up, and threatened to kill them. To resolve the matter, local dignitaries negotiated several times and reached a solution and gave them their land. Not accepting the arbitration decision, the accused Samsun Nahar and his family came to seize the land under the influence of power.
In continuation of this, on April 22, Samsun Nahar ambushed Ferdousi Begum with a country-made weapon while she was alone at home. At that time, Ferdousi was stabbed and injured with a sharp knife.
Ferdousi, who was seriously injured by a bullet to the head, was first taken to Bancharampur Upazila Health Complex, but the doctor on duty referred him to Dhaka Medical College Hospital in a critical condition.
Regarding the matter, Ferdousi Begum's son Raihan Islam said, "The enemy wanted to hack my mother to death while we were not at home. My mother's condition is now critical. No son will be able to tolerate such a condition of his mother. We are also suffering from insecurity. We can be attacked again at any time. We want a remedy from the administration."
Ferdousi Begum's statement on this matter could not be obtained as her condition is critical. However, her husband said on Friday from Dhaka Medical College on his mobile phone, "My wife was found alone and was beaten up. She is now in a hospital in Dhaka. I want justice for this."
Attempts were made to contact Samsun Nahar to inquire about the allegations, but it was not possible.
In this regard, Bancharampur Model Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Morshedul Alam Chowdhury said, "We have received a complaint regarding the matter at the police station. An investigation is underway. Necessary legal action will be taken as per the investigation."
