An eight-year-old girl was raped allegedly by her neighbour at Sadar upazila in Nilphamari on Friday.
Confirming the matter, Nilphamari Sadar Police Station officer-in-charge MR Sayeed said that the victim used to live with her maternal uncle and was studied at a local school. Abu Bakkar, neighbor of the victim, took her to his house and raped her there. The victim was later threatened not to disclose the matter to anyone.
The girl began to feel pain at night and disclosed the matter with her grandmother. When the news spread, locals beat Abu Bakkar up and handed him over to the police.
The victim was admitted to Nilphamari Modern Sadar Hospital for treatment, the police official said.
Abu Bakkar was sent to jail after producing him before a court in the afternoon, the OC added.
Resident Medical officer of Nilphamari Modern Sadar Hospital Abdur Rahim said that the victim was admitted to the Gynaecology department late at night and her examination was completed on Saturday afternoon.
