All India Students’ Association (AISA) president Neha Bora has been released from detention during the early hours of Saturday, after being detained by the Delhi Police on Friday evening, while they were marching towards Connaught place to participate in the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga‘ march announced by Cockroach Janta Party (CJP).
Meanwhile, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke, who was also put under preventive arrest on Friday, is expected to be produced before the SEM court.
Citing Delhi Police, news agency PTI, noted that action under Section 126/170 of the BNSS was initiated against Dipke, while Neha was released after completing formalities related to her detention under Section 65 of the Delhi Police Act.
Neha speaking to the media after being released, demanded Abhijeet Dipke and others detained to be released immediately.
They further added, “I was picked up from Mandi House, and kept me here night long, and now at 5 AM, they have released me.”
‘Release all detainees’
Questioning the illegal detentions, Neha noted, “The current movement has clearly exposed how people are being detained, whether during the day or in the evening, held in custody throughout the night, and only released the following morning or evening. Under what authority is this justified? By what law or order is it permissible to keep detainees held in custody all night long?”
Demanding the release of other detainees, Neha added, “Everyone detained should be released, I just got to know Abhijeet Dipke also was detained, he should also be released immediately. Further the curfew like situation in Delhi police should be ended. Impeach Gyanesh Kumar and halt SIR, so that the ordinary citizens of this country can breathe a sigh of relief, feel at ease, and have their voting rights ensured.”
On Friday, despite the police crackdown, and detentions, “Tiranga March” of the Left student organisations, including SFI, DYFI, AISF and AIYF, led by CPI(M) Rajya Sabha MPs John Brittas and V Sivadasan, reached Connaught Place.
The CJP announced the ‘Lehra Do Tiranga‘ march on 14 October as part of the ongoing protests demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar over large-scale voter deletions and other irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
The march was also announced in solidarity with CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, who were arrested earlier this week for waving the national flag at Jantar Mantar after the central government de-notified it as a designated protest site.
