Bangladesh advanced to the semifinals of the Asian Games without taking the field after their quarterfinal against Malaysia was abandoned due to persistent rain and adverse weather conditions.
The match was scheduled to begin at 10:30AM on Tuesday (September 29), but officials called it off after the wet conditions left the playing surface unfit for cricket. Under the tournament rules, Bangladesh progressed as the higher-ranked side in the ICC rankings.
Bangladesh will now face Pakistan in the semifinal.
Rain had been affecting conditions at Nishin’s Korogi Sports Park since the day before the match, with overcast skies and intermittent drizzle continuing into Tuesday morning. With the outfield remaining unsuitable for play, the fourth quarterfinal was ultimately abandoned without a ball being bowled.
The other quarterfinal between Sri Lanka and Nepal was also washed out because of rain. Sri Lanka advanced to the semifinals as the higher-ranked team and will face India in the last four.
