Education and primary and mass education minister ANM Ehsanul Haque Milon made a surprise visit to six printing presses in Dhaka early Tuesday to assess the quality and progress of textbook printing for the new academic year.
The six presses are Mousumi Offset Press, Faiza Printing Press, Shaily Printers, Barnashikha Offset Printers, Sonali Web Printers and National Printers, said the ministry’s public relations officer Asif Ahmed.
During the unannounced visit at around 1am, the minister observed the textbook printing process and spoke to officials and workers involved in it.
He checked the quality of the textbooks and reviewed the overall progress of printing work at the presses.
The minister stressed maintaining the prescribed standards to ensure quality textbooks reach students on time at the beginning of the new academic year.
He also issued necessary instructions to the concerned authorities to maintain textbook quality throughout the printing process.
The National Curriculum and Textbook Board plans to print 30.62 crore copies of textbooks for 2027 — 57.31 lakh for pre-primary, 7.94 crore for primary, and 22.10 crore for secondary, Ebtedayee and Dakhil students — at an estimated cost of Tk 1,643.24 crore.
It has set November 30 as the deadline for delivering all textbooks to upazila-level distribution points so that students can receive them on January 1.
