President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir today (10 september) asked the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) to act firmly against corruption, stressing that no individual should be spared because of influence or position.

"The ACC must continue working with honesty and courage to combat corruption," the president said during a courtesy meeting with a delegation from the Anti-Corruption Commission led by its Chairman Justice AKM Asaduzzaman at Bangabhaban this afternoon.

Other members of the delegation included Commissioner (Investigation) Dr Jahangir Alam Khan, Commissioner (Inquiry) Dr Md Sajjad Hossain Bhuiyan, and Secretary Md Saidur Rahman Khan.

During the meeting, the ACC chairman briefed the president on the commission's overall activities, ongoing initiatives, and the challenges it faces in carrying out its responsibilities.

He also sought the president's cooperation in making the commission's anti-corruption efforts more effective.

The president said corruption has emerged as one of Bangladesh's major problems due to prolonged misgovernance, irregularities, and a lack of accountability.

He said the nation's progress and a brighter future depend largely on preventing and controlling corruption.

President Fakhrul asked the ACC to take legal steps to expedite the disposal of the large number of long-pending cases and reduce procedural delays.

He also called for swift investigations and stringent action against serious and large-scale corruption.

The president emphasised the need to further strengthen public awareness and campaign activities to foster anti-corruption values among citizens.

He assured the commission of his full cooperation in effectively carrying out its constitutional and legal responsibilities.

Secretaries to the president were also present at the meeting.
