At least four Bangladeshi nationals, including the driver, were killed in a road accident while travelling from Taif to Jeddah Airport in Saudi Arabia.

The accident occurred at around 2:00pm local time on Monday (7 September) on the Al-Khurma highway in Taif.

According to local sources and information provided by Bangladeshi expatriates, all four victims were from Kanaighat upazila of Sylhet.

The identities of two of the victims have initially been confirmed as Karim Uddin and Khalid Mia. The names and identities of the other two victims are yet to be confirmed.

The four Bangladeshis were killed after the vehicle they were travelling in suddenly lost control on their way to the airport.

The incident has cast a pall of grief among Bangladeshi expatriates in Saudi Arabia, while mourning has also spread in the victims’ hometown.

Officials of the Bangladesh Embassy in Riyadh and the local consulate in Saudi Arabia are working to complete the necessary legal procedures and arrange for the bodies to be repatriated to Bangladesh as soon as possible.
