Three more children died from measles-like symptoms in the 24 hours until 8am today (9 September), taking the country's combined tally of confirmed and suspected measles-related deaths to 1,002.

Of the total, 902 deaths are suspected to have been caused by measles, while 100 have been laboratory-confirmed, according to the daily update from the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

The country recorded 1,119 new suspected measles cases during the 24-hour period, raising the cumulative number of suspected cases to 1,67,580.

Meanwhile, 69 new laboratory-confirmed cases were reported, taking the total number of confirmed infections to 19,904, according to the DGHS.

Since 15 March, 1,47,393 patients with suspected measles have been hospitalised across the country. Of them, 1,41,819 have recovered.
