Devastating floods near the Chinese border killed at least 903 people in Nepal, while the number of missing citizens soared to 4,247 as rescue efforts entered their sixth day.

Nepal's disaster management authority confirmed the updated casualties on Monday morning.

Chinese state media earlier confirmed 16 dead and 546 people missing in Tibet following Wednesday's disaster, bringing the overall regional toll to 919 dead and 4,793 missing.

The total count includes 933 workers from hydropower projects along the river that was overwhelmed by the torrent, according to the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority.

Nepal's disaster agency listed 3,655 missing citizens in its latest update on Monday morning.

The figure includes Nuwakot district, where the number of missing persons rose sharply to 1,158 from 115 reported on Sunday, along with an additional 562 unaccounted for in Rasuwa district.

Among those missing are 45 Nepali army personnel, 38 police and armed police officers, and 19 customs and immigration officials.

Meanwhile in India, authorities in Uttar Pradesh state recovered 17 bodies from rivers flowing from Nepal believed to be victims of the flooding.

Indian authorities are attempting to identify the bodies, which are currently not included in the official death toll.
