22-carat gold now costs Tk240,636 per bhori, with new rates taking effect from 10am Saturday
The price of 22-carat gold has been reduced by Tk7,109 per bhori in Bangladesh, with the new rate coming into effect from 10am on Saturday, according to the Bangladesh Jewellers Association (Bajus).
Under the new rate, 22-carat gold will cost Tk20,630 per gram, or Tk240,636 per bhori (11.664 grams), including VAT. The previous price was Tk247,745 per bhori.
The decision was taken at a meeting of Bajus's Standing Committee on Pricing and Price Monitoring on Saturday morning, following a decline in the price of Tejabi gold (pure gold) and silver in the local market.
According to the new rates, 21-carat gold has been priced at Tk19,700 per gram, while 18-carat gold will cost Tk16,920 per gram. Gold under the traditional system has been set at Tk13,820 per gram.
On a per-bhori basis, 21-carat gold will cost approximately Tk229,891, 18-carat gold Tk197,333 and traditional-system gold approximately Tk161,173.
Silver prices also cut
Bajus has also reduced the price of silver.
The new price of 22-carat silver has been set at Tk455 per gram, 21-carat at Tk435, 18-carat at Tk375 and traditional-system silver at Tk285 per gram.
The previous price of 22-carat silver was Tk470 per gram, meaning it has fallen by Tk15 per gram.

On Tuesday, Bajus had set the price of 22-carat gold at Tk21,240 per gram, or Tk247,745 per bhori.
At the time, 21-carat gold was priced at Tk20,285 per gram, 18-carat at Tk17,420 and traditional-system gold at Tk14,225 per gram.
Bajus had also raised gold prices on August 22. The latest reduction comes after several changes in gold prices in the final week of August.
Bajus said VAT is included in the announced selling prices, so customers cannot be charged VAT separately. However, making charges will be added depending on the design of the jewellery.
The association also said its existing rules will remain in effect for the exchange, purchase and sale of gold and silver jewellery, excluding VAT, making charges and the value of stones.
The new prices will remain effective at all jewellery shops across the country until further notice from Bajus.
