Home ministry has formed a special police unit to recover looted and illegal weapons and will offer rewards of up to Tk 2 lakh for information leading to their recovery, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed said on Saturday.
He made the announcement at a meeting with senior Bangladesh Police officials at the Rajarbagh Police Auditorium to review the country's crime situation over the past three months.
Police officials raised several issues at the meeting, including the need for greater technical support to help maintain law and order.
Salahuddin said the government was working to recover illegal weapons and gave police officials instructions to maintain and improve the law and order situation.
He told reporters after the meeting that instructions had been given to ensure that the law and order situation gradually improved.
The reward for information leading to the recovery of weapons will range from Tk 10,000 to Tk 2 lakh, he said.
