Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has said the election schedule for the upcoming local government elections may be announced in September, reports Daily Sun.He made the remarks while speaking to journalists at his office at the Election Commission Secretariat in Dhaka on Thursday.
The CEC said the elections could be held in late November or December, adding that the Election Commission would request the Education Ministry to reschedule annual examinations accordingly.
“We are ready for the local elections. The regulations have already been vetted and returned. Now, only the gazette notification remains,” he said.
He added, “After meeting with the president, I instructed the secretary to make all-out preparations.”
CEC Nasir Uddin further said Election Commissioner Abul Fazal Md Sanaullah is coordinating law and order issues related to the by-election to the Thakurgaon-1 constituency and the local government elections.
He said Sanaullah would soon begin coordination meetings with the relevant authorities.
