
At least 12 scrap warehouses in Deolia Bari area under Gazipur’s Konabari Metro Police Station were gutted in fire on early Thursday.
The fire originated from a polythene warehouse owned by one Bacchu Mia from the area around 5:30pm, locals said.
Locals informed Fire Service and Civil Defence about the incident as the fire spread to nearby warehouses. Being informed, three firefighting units reached the spot and began dousing the flame. Two more units joined soon as the intensity of the fire increased.
A total of five firefighting units are currently trying to extinguish the blaze.
Speaking to the media, Station Officer of Konabari Fire Service Saiful Islam said, “Firefighters are facing problems to douse the flame due to heavy wind. The actual reason behind the fire is yet to be known.”
No casualty from the fire has been reported yet. However, warehouse owners claimed huge losses due to the fire, amounting to at least Tk50 crore.
