
All preparations have been completed at Bangabhaban’s Durbar Hall for the swearing-in of newly elected President Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, officials said.
The oath-taking ceremony is scheduled to begin at 7:30pm on Friday.
President’s Press Secretary Md Sarwar Alam said preparations for the ceremony have been finalised, while the Cabinet Division will oversee the programme.
Acting Speaker Kaiser Kamal is scheduled to administer the oath of office to Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, with Cabinet Secretary Nasimul Gani conducting the ceremony.
The invitation letter stated that the President will enter the Durbar Hall at 7:30 pm. Then, after the national anthem and recitation of the Quran, the Speaker will administer the oath to the President.
The list of invited guests includes Prime Minister Tarique Rahman, Speaker of the National Assembly, cabinet members, members of parliament and judges of the Supreme Court's Appellate and High Court divisions.
In addition, the chiefs of the three services, high-ranking military and civilian officials of the government, vice-chancellors of various universities, prominent national-level political leaders, representatives of civil society, editors of various media outlets and senior journalists have also been invited to the event.
Ambassadors, high commissioners and foreign diplomats of various countries posted in Dhaka have also been invited to Bangabhaban to witness this historic moment. All in all, a special atmosphere has been created in the Bangabhaban area around the swearing-in of the new president. In addition to the security arrangements surrounding the swearing-in ceremony, those concerned are busy with decoration and formal preparations.
Earlier, Md. Shahabuddin, who was elected during the Awami League era, resigned from the post of president on July 24 citing illness. Since the post of president was vacant, the obligation to elect a new president within 90 days was created.
The presidential election was held in the parliament chamber of the Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban on Thursday. Voting lasted from 2 pm to 5 pm. BNP nominated candidate Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir was elected president.
