Prime Minister Tarique Rahman said on Tuesday that clearing public confusion about revenue remained a challenge and called for stronger efforts to improve tax collection and management.
He made the remarks while attending the Revenue Conference-2026 as chief guest at the Bangladesh-China Friendship Conference Center in Dhaka.
The Internal Resources Division of the Finance Ministry and the National Board of Revenue (NBR) jointly organized the conference, which was attended by senior NBR officials and other relevant officials.
The prime minister said the government is working to reduce spending in unnecessary sectors while ensuring adequate expenditure in essential areas.
“Positive changes will come to the country if everyone does their work properly,” he said.
He said the government's goal is to move forward rather than return to the past and called for collective efforts to achieve that goal.
“If we have to move forward, we all have to work together, go together,” he said.
The conference has been scheduled to discuss increasing revenue collection, improving tax administration and developing revenue sources needed to support the country's economy.
