The BNP government has ended its “knee-jerk” foreign policy within 180 days of taking office, Prime Minister’s Advisor and Prime Minister’s Office spokesperson Mahdi Amin said on Monday.

“The knee-jerk foreign policy has ended in six months. Diplomatic relations will be built on the basis of equality and fairness. There is no room for anyone to interfere in internal affairs now,” he said.

Mahdi Amin made the remarks at a view-exchange meeting at the ‘Shapla’ hall of the Prime Minister’s Tejgaon office to mark 180 days of the BNP government in office.

He said the government had adopted investment-friendly policies to attract more foreign investment and established police and administrative systems free from political harassment.

Amin said the government had received unprecedented public support during its first six months and had begun implementing election manifesto commitments even before “the ink of the vote dried.”

“The government is working tirelessly to implement every promise made in the manifesto,” he said.

He said 200 electric buses were being brought into the country, while economic reforms and a new pay scale for government officials and employees had largely been finalized.

Mahdi Amin said Bangladesh was being rebuilt after 16 years of “fascism.” During its first six months, he said, the government had ensured freedom of speech and human rights for all.
