The Supreme Court chamber judge today stayed a High Court order that granted ad-interim bail to former Awami League minister Dipu Moni in an attempted murder case filed over a BNP rally held on October 28, 2023.
Justice Md Rezaul Haque, chamber judge of the Appellate Division, passed the order following a petition filed by the state challenging the High Court's bail order.
The chamber judge also asked the High Court to hear and dispose of the rule that sought an explanation as to why Dipu Moni should not be granted permanent bail in the case, her lawyer, Md Ramzan Ali Sikder, told reporters.
On June 9, the High Court granted ad-interim bail to Dipu Moni in the case filed with Paltan Police Station and issued the rule.
Dipu Moni was arrested from Dhaka's Baridhara area on August 19, 2024. She has been implicated in 38 criminal cases involving allegations of murder, crimes against humanity, corruption, and incitement to violence.
Two of the cases are pending before the International Crimes Tribunal.
Of the remaining cases, the High Court has granted bail and issued rules in two cases, while rules have been issued in 13 others, according to Advocate Ramzan Ali Sikder.
"There is no question of her being released from jail in this situation," he said.
Additional Attorney General Aneek R Haque represented the state during today's hearing.
