Two arrested youths, Siddhartha Das and Mughda Das, gave confessional statements in court on Sunday regarding the murder of retired teacher Ganapati Chakraborty, his wife, and their two children in Machhuapara area of Rangpur city.
The court ordered them sent to jail after recording their statements.
Police produced the two accused before the Rangpur Metropolitan Chief Judicial Magistrate Court at around 7:30 PM on Sunday. They gave their statements under Section 164 of the Code of Criminal Procedure before Magistrate Md Rafiqul Islam.
Kotwali Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Milon Chatterjee, who is also the investigating officer of the case, confirmed the matter. He said the arrested youths admitted their involvement in the killings. Police did not seek remand as they confessed to the crime.
The investigating officer added that the accused provided vital information about the murder during interrogation. Police withheld the details for the sake of investigation. He assured that all persons involved in the crime will be brought to justice through a proper probe.
Following legal procedures, the court ordered them to jail at around 11:30 PM. Police then transported them to prison in a prison van.
Earlier on Saturday night, police recovered the bodies of Ganapati Chakraborty, a retired teacher of Rangpur Zilla School, his wife, and two children from their residence in Machhuapara. Police detained Mughda Das and Siddhartha Das from the same area early Sunday.
The victim's elder brother, Gopinath Chakraborty, filed a murder case against unidentified persons with Kotwali Police Station on Sunday.
