The names of two residential halls of Begum Rokeya University for male and female students have been changed. It has been decided to change the name of Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Hall to 'Bijoy 24 Hall' and to change the name of Bangamata Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib Hall to 'Shaheed Felani Hall' On Sunday.
After the 110th meeting of the syndicate held in the administrative building, the vice-chancellor of the university, Professor Dr. Md Shawkat Ali, gave this information in the press briefing in the evening.
The Vice-Chancellor said that to commemorate the contribution of Shaheed Abu Sayed in the anti-discrimination movement, a decision has been taken to observe Martyr Abu Sayed Day on July 16 every year at the initiative of Begum Rokeya University. On this day, class exams will be closed in the university, and administrative activities will continue. In his speech, the Vice-Chancellor called upon all educational institutions to observe this day at the national level.
The Vice-Chancellor also said that it has been decided to waive all fees of the university for the students injured in the July movement.
He also said that a decision has been taken to organize a 7-day long book fair in the name of Shaheed Abu Sayed on the initiative of the university administration in February, the month of language every year.
