The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has brought some relief for people struggling with intense heat, forecasting continued rainfall and thunderstorms across much of the country over the next five days, including around Eid-ul-Azha.

According to a forecast issued on Monday (25 May) by meteorologist Md Tariful Newaz Kabir, rain accompanied by gusty winds and thunderstorms is expected to continue in many regions.

Heavy rainfall is especially likely in four divisions, and from Wednesday onward, daytime temperatures across the country may fall by 1–2 degrees Celsius.

Over the next 24 hours, many places in Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions are expected to experience light to moderate rain or thunderstorms with temporary gusty winds and lightning. Some areas of Dhaka and Chattogram divisions, along with isolated places in Khulna and Barishal divisions, may also receive rainfall. Moderate to heavy rainfall is possible in parts of Rangpur, Rajshahi, Mymensingh, and Sylhet divisions.

The weather office also said a mild heatwave is currently sweeping across Dhaka, Tangail, Faridpur, Madaripur, Gopalganj, Rajshahi, Pabna, Sirajganj, Patuakhali, and the Khulna division, and it may continue.

From Wednesday, temperatures are expected to gradually decrease, bringing some relief from the heat. Similar weather conditions are likely to persist through Thursday and Friday, with rainfall expected in several divisions and moderate to heavy showers in some parts of the country.

The weather department also indicated that the trend of rainfall may continue even beyond the next five days.
