Railways Minister Shaikh Rabiul Alam has said that five pairs of special trains will begin operating from Monday (25 May) to facilitate Eid-ul-Azha travel.
He made the remarks to journalists on Sunday (24 May) after visiting Kamalapur Railway Station.
The minister said passenger demand for train travel remains very high, giving rail transport special importance during the Eid season.
He noted that the limited number of trains creates some constraints, but authorities have arranged for 25 percent more passenger capacity this year.
“I came to inspect the arrangements and found the overall environment and cleanliness satisfactory,” he said.
He also mentioned that three trains had experienced schedule disruptions and that special measures had been taken in risk-prone areas.
The minister said many railway stations still lack adequate security, though efforts are underway to address the issue. He confirmed that five pairs of special trains will start operating from Monday.
He expressed hope that train travel during Eid-ul-Azha would be more comfortable this year, adding that 51 new coaches have been added to the railway network. As a result, around 40,000 passengers will be able to travel daily during the Eid period.
