Five people were killed after a passenger bus collided head-on with an ambulance in Faridpur’s Nagarkanda upazila on Sunday morning.
The accident occurred at around 10:30am at the Shankarpasha bus stand on the Dhaka-Barishal highway. All the deceased were reportedly travelling in the ambulance.
According to highway police and local sources, the crash took place in the Dangi union of Nagarkanda when a passenger-carrying BRTC bus travelling from Bhanga towards Faridpur collided head-on with an oncoming ambulance.
The impact left the ambulance severely mangled, killing five passengers on the spot.
Officials said the identities of the deceased could not immediately be confirmed.
Officer-in-Charge of Bhanga Highway Police Station, Md Helal Uddin, said members of the Nagarkanda Fire Service and highway police rushed to the scene soon after receiving information about the accident and launched rescue operations.
He added that police had recovered the bodies, while efforts were underway to identify the victims.
