The election for the Executive Board of the Bangladesh Physical Society (BPS) for the 2026–2027 terms has been completed on Saturday (11 April, 2026) at Mokaram Bhaban of the University of Dhaka. The newly formed committee includes experienced teachers and scientists from leading universities and research institutions of the country.
Former Vice-Chancellor of the University of Dhaka (DU) and Emeritus Professor Dr. A. F. M. Yusuf Haider has been appointed as the President of the newly elected board. Professor Dr. F. Nazrul Islam of the Department of Physics of the University of Rajshahi and Professor Dr. A. K. M. Akhter Hossain of the Department of Physics of Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) are elected as the Vice-Presidents of BPS. Dr. Md. Nazrul Islam Khan, Chief Scientific Officer of the Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission, has been elected as Treasurer, while Professor Dr. Mohammad Jellur Rahman of the Department of Physics of BUET will serve as General Secretary.
Additionally, Dr. Murad Ahmed from Bangladesh University of Textiles and Dr. Abu Zafar Ziauddin Ahmed from Primeasia University have been elected as Joint General Secretary, and Information & Publication Secretary, respectively. The Executive Members include representatives from various institutions, such as: Dr. Mohammad Shawkat Akbar (Ex-officio, Bangladesh Atomic Energy Commission), Professor Dr. Saleh Hasan Naqib (University of Rajshahi), Professor Dr. Md. Kamal-Al-Hasan (DUET), Professor Dr. Aminul Islam Talukdar (DU), Professor Dr. Md. Mizanur Rahman (DU), Professor Dr. Nazia Chawdhury (SUST), Professor Dr. Md. Mohi Uddin (CUET), Dr. Mohammad Kamrul Haque Bhuiyan (NCTB), Dr. Mohammad Amirul Islam (BAEC), Professor Dr. Md. Khurshed Alam (BUET), Professor Dr. Md. Kutub Uddin (Jagannath University), Dr. Md. Khorshed Alam (University of Barishal), Dr. Syed Farid Uddin Farhad (BCSIR), and Dr. Shovan Kumar Kundu (AIUB).
It is hoped that the newly elected committee members will work collectively to further advance physics research and education in the country.
