The government has reiterated its zero-tolerance stance against mob violence, warning that no individual or group has the authority to take the law into their own hands.
Information and Broadcasting Adviser to the Prime Minister Zahed Ur Rahman said, “Mob violence or lynching will not be accepted under any circumstances. Regardless of the gravity of the crime, only the state has the authority to punish offenders.”
He made the remarks at a press briefing held at the Press Information Department (PID) conference room at the Bangladesh Secretariat on Wednesday, where he discussed the progress of various government initiatives.
Zahed Ur Rahman said incidents of mob violence were widely encouraged during the interim government, leading to a dangerous tendency in society to bypass legal processes.
“The present government is pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against such activities and remains firm in maintaining law and order,” he added.
Highlighting other initiatives, the adviser said the distribution of farmer cards under the Ministry of Agriculture has already begun.
“As part of a pilot project, 21,014 farmers across eight divisions will receive the cards. If successful, the programme will be expanded in the next fiscal year to include more farmers,” he said.
