Newly elected Members of Parliament (MPs) from Bogura-6 and Sherpur-3 constituencies, Rezaul Karim Badsha and Mahmudul Hasan Rubel, have taken oath of office.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmed Bir Bikram administered the oath at the National Parliament office on Sunday. Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was present at the oath-taking ceremony.
Among others, Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal, Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed, Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni, along with other whips, the Prime Minister’s press secretary, additional press secretary, and senior officials of the National Parliament Secretariat also attended the ceremony.
Notably, in the 13th National Parliament election, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was elected from both Bogura-6 and Dhaka-17 constituencies. He later vacated the Bogura-6 seat, retaining Dhaka-17.
The election in Sherpur-3 was postponed ahead of the February 12 polls following the death of a Jamaat candidate.
In the by-elections held on April 9, BNP candidates Rezaul Karim Badsha and Mahmudul Hasan Rubel secured victories in Bogura-6 and Sherpur-3 respectively, defeating their Jamaat-e-Islami rivals.
