The parliament on Friday passed the “Dhaka Central University Bill, 2026” through voice vote.
Education Minister ANM Ehsanul Hoque Milon tabled the relevant ordinance, which the interim government issued to form a dedicated university for seven public colleges based in the capital.
On 22 January, the Prof Muhammad Yunus-led interim administration issued the ordinance with a view to ending the decades-old academic and administrative hassles faced by students of the seven colleges.
The institutions are: Dhaka College, Eden Mohila College, Begum Badrunnessa Government Women's College, Government Shaheed Suhrawardy College, Kavi Nazrul Government College, Government Bangla College, and Government Titumir College.
