Long after office lights dimmed across the capital, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman was still at his desk, wrapping up a work-packed day on Thursday that stretched close to 16 hours.
From early morning responsibility to late-night deliberations, the day offered a glimpse into the demanding routine at the helm of government.
The Prime Minister began his day at his Cabinet Division office in the Bangladesh Secretariat at 9:00am, carrying out a series of official tasks, including reviewing files, holding meetings and making decisions on key national issues.
After completing his work at the Secretariat, Tarique Rahman went to the parliament and remained present in its ongoing session until about 8:00pm.
Later, he chaired a Cabinet meeting at the Cabinet Room of the Jatiya Sangsad complex around 8:45pm, where key issues, including the country’s energy situation, were discussed and a number of austerity measures were taken to address the energy crisis triggered by the ongoing US-Israel war on Iran.
The Cabinet meeting continued until 11:30pm. After the meeting, the prime minister returned to his office at the Parliament Secretariat and continued his official work.
PM’s Additional Press Secretary Atikur Rahman Rumon said Tarique Rahman worked from 9:00am to 11:50pm on Thursday.
He said working 12-14 hours a day is part of the Prime Minister’s regular routine, but on this day it extended to nearly 16 hours.
“This long working hour is not just a number; it carries a message for the people. While many people go to rest at the end of the day, the Prime Minister continues to work for the country and its future,” Rumon said.
