Major General Kaisar Rashid Chowdhury has been appointed Director General (DG) of the Directorate General of Forces Intelligence (DGFI).
On 23 February, Prime Minister Tarique Rahman formally conferred upon him the rank badges of Major General at the Armed Forces Division in the cantonment.
Widely regarded as a capable and astute military officer, Major General Chowdhury has earned recognition for his professionalism and competence both at home and abroad. His appointment to lead one of the country’s principal intelligence agencies follows a distinguished career marked by notable achievements in training and command.
Commissioned as the second-best cadet of the 29th BMA Long Course, he is currently the senior-most officer of his course. Colleagues describe him as consistently excelling in military training. He has successfully completed prestigious staff courses in both Bangladesh and the United Kingdom, as well as the Artillery Basic Course in Turkey and the Gunnery Staff Course in Pakistan.
Over his career, he has held several key appointments, including Brigade Major of an Artillery Brigade in the Chattogram Hill Tracts. He also served for more than three years as Directing Staff and Chief Instructor at the Defence Services Command and Staff College, and as an instructor at the School of Artillery for three terms.
In the international arena, he joined the United Nations Headquarters in 2019, where his contributions helped strengthen Bangladesh’s standing as one of the top troop-contributing countries to UN peacekeeping missions.
