Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami has claimed that the money seized from Thakurgaon district Ameer Belal Uddin is his personal business fund, dismissing reports surrounding his detention as “misleading propaganda.”
Advocate Ehsanul Mahbub Zubair, the party’s central publicity and media secretary, made the statement to the media on Wednesday.
Earlier, law enforcement agencies detained Belal Uddin at Syedpur Airport with a large amount of cash. The seized money is currently being counted using a machine.
During questioning, Belal Uddin said his home is in Thakurgaon Sadar and that he works as a teacher by profession. He reportedly acknowledged that his luggage contained more than Tk50 lakh in cash.
When asked about the source of the money, he said that it was related to his business activities, adding that he is involved in the garments business.
