Collected PhotoBiman Bangladesh Airlines has extended the suspension of its Dhaka–Riyadh and Dhaka–Dammam flights until November 4 amid ongoing airport attacks in Saudi Arabia.
The national flag carrier announced the decision in a press statement on Sunday (October 25), citing passenger safety concerns.
Earlier, Biman had suspended flights to Dammam until October 25 and to Riyadh until October 31. Under the latest decision, services on both routes will remain suspended until November 4, based on Bangladesh Standard Time.
The airline said passengers requiring urgent travel to or from Saudi Arabia could use Jeddah and Madinah international airports as alternative gateways.
To accommodate passenger demand, Biman has been operating two daily flights from Dhaka to Jeddah since October 16. The additional service will continue until November 4.
Meanwhile, regular flights on the Dhaka–Madinah route are continuing with Boeing 787 aircraft.
Biman said further decisions regarding the suspended services and updated flight schedules would be announced in due course.
Passengers have been advised to contact their nearest Biman Bangladesh Airlines sales centre for ticketing and other travel-related information.
The airline initially suspended flights to Riyadh and Dammam until October 17 following a reported attack on King Khalid International Airport in the Saudi capital. The suspension was subsequently extended as security concerns persisted.
Biman had planned to resume its Dammam service on October 21 but later postponed the resumption until October 22. A flight departed Dhaka at around 8:00am that day and arrived in Dammam.
However, following further reported attacks in Saudi Arabia, Biman again suspended its Dammam and Riyadh services on October 22, initially until October 25 and October 31, respectively. Sunday's announcement extends the suspension of both routes until November 4.
