Police arrested former Awami League lawmaker for Netrokona-1 Mustaque Ahmed Ruhi on Iqbal Road at Mohammadpur in Dhaka city on Wednesday afternoon.Mohammadpur police station officer-in-charge Abdul Halim said that a team of their police arrested lawmaker of the banned political party from a house on Iqbal Road at about 4:40pm on the day.
‘The former MP was hiding in the house and police arrested him during emergency drives. We have kept him at the police station. The next course of legal actions would be taken against him,’ the OC added.
He said that he was accused in several cases but it remains yet to be decided as to which case he has been shown as arrested.
Ruhi was elected as member of parliament in the 2008 and 2024 general elections with AL party ticket.
The then interim government banned all of Awami League’s activities in 2025 following a year after the AL government was ousted amid a student-mass uprising on August 5, 2024.
