Clash between political groups in Kirttipasha, several Injured

Published : Monday, 27 January, 2025 at 8:26 PM  Count : 466

A violent incident took place in Kirttipasha Bazar when a group of local politicians including BNP Kirttipasha Union President Anisuzzaman Chapal, Awami League associate Kalam Sardar, and their supporters attacked several individuals, leaving many injured. The attack occurred on Sunday evening around 7:00 PM. The victims were members of the local minority community.

According to eyewitnesses, the attack intensified when several leaders of Chhatra Dal were beaten severely. One of the prominent victims, Jubo Dal leader Md. Moniruzzaman (White), was chased into his home and assaulted with sticks and clubs. The injured were immediately taken to Jhalakathi Sadar Hospital for treatment. In response to the incident, a complaint was lodged at the Jhalakathi Sadar Police Station by Chhatra Dal leader Md. Akash Bepari (21), son of Md. Rafiq Bepari. The accused named in the complaint include Anisuzzaman Chapal (55), Shariful Haque Plato (50), Kalam Sardar (42), Kamrul Islam (40), and 10 others. The complaint outlines charges of physical assault and illegal activities.

Local residents, alongside Chhatra Dal, Jubo Dal, and Swechchhasebak Dal, have accused Kalam Sardar, son of Sultan Sardar, of being involved in multiple illegal activities, including extortion, interest rackets, and drug dealings. The allegation states that Kalam has been a longstanding member of the Awami League and has recently infiltrated the BNP by allegedly bribing local leaders. This, the locals claim, has tarnished the reputation of the BNP while perpetuating a climate of fear and violence in the area.

The local community is now demanding urgent action, calling for a swift investigation, trial, and resolution to rid Kirttipasha of what they describe as the growing menace of terrorism, extortion, and drug-related crimes. They are also appealing to the authorities to take immediate action to restore peace and order in the region.
