A woman and her two children were killed after being hit by a train near Pubail tation of Gazipur city on Monday.

The accident occurred around 10:30AM at Pubail Bazar-level crossing in Pubail area when an Akhaura-bound Titas commuter train hit the woman and the children, leaving the trio dead on the spot, witnesses and railway officials said.

Pubail Police Station OC Atiqur Rahman said that it is not clear yet whether the woman committed suicide or met the accident. ''This is being investigated.''
The deceased were identified as Hafeza Khatun Mala, 25, daughter of Mozammel Haque of Kaliganj upazila, her daughter Tobassum, 8, and son Maruf, 5.

Md Musa, station master at Pubail Railway Station, said initial indications suggested the woman jumped in front of the train along with her children.

Local residents later recovered a voter identification card from a bag believed to belong to the woman, police said.

Soon after the incident, a pall of gloom descended the whole area.

Narsingdi Railway Station master Jahidul Islam said, ''A police force was sent to the spot and necessary steps are being taken to smooth the train movement.
