Jamaat Ameer promises Agricultural University in Gaibandha if elected

Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman said on Saturday that he plans to establish an agricultural university in Gaibandha if his party comes to power.

Shafiqur Rahman said, “Considering the importance of agriculture in North Bengal, there is a need to establish multiple agricultural universities. If we are elected, an agricultural university will be established in Gaibandha on a priority basis.”

He made these remarks while addressing a public rally organised by Jamaat at the Palashbari Government Pilot High School field in Gaibandha as the chief guest.

The Jamaat Ameer said that Export Processing Zones (EPZs) would be established to create employment and to take local products to the global market. At the same time, as part of infrastructural development, Balashi and Bahadurabad would be connected by a bridge. He added that if money that has been siphoned off or stolen can be recovered and further theft can be stopped, the country’s development would progress at a very rapid pace.

He further said that life and livelihoods in North Bengal are largely river-dependent. However, due to negligence by governments over the past 54 years, rivers such as the Teesta, Dharla, Karatoa, and Brahmaputra have now turned into near-dead skeletons.

As the rivers have dried up, the soil of North Bengal has become almost barren, and people’s sources of livelihood are being shut down. To address this problem, the Teesta Mega Plan will be implemented and rivers will be revitalized so that North Bengal can be transformed into an agriculture-based capital.

Dr. Shafiqur Rahman also said that medical colleges would be established in all 64 districts of the country (currently, 31 districts do not have any). In addition, specialized hospitals would be built through public, private, or joint initiatives. This would reduce the waste of people’s time and money.

At the event, the Jamaat Ameer unveiled the election symbols of the party’s candidates for the five parliamentary constituencies of Gaibandha district.
