Pabna Sadar Upazila Administration conducted a special operation to protect migratory birds, based on information provided by the National Security Intelligence (NSI). During the operation, 25 birds, locally known as Chowka, were rescued and released, while two bird hunters were detained and sentenced to 20 days of imprisonment by a mobile court.
The operation was carried out on the evening of January 24th (Friday) by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Murad Hossain, based on information provided by NSI Pabna.
The convicted individuals are Satchu (45), son of Amer Ali, and Aminul (19), son of Mohammad Ali, both from Senagram (Bahadurpur) village in Pangsha Upazila of Rajbari district.
During the operation, a 2,000-meter-long net used for bird hunting was burned by the mobile court.
Various species of migratory birds, commonly referred to as guest birds or winter birds, have been taking refuge in rivers and wetlands in Pabna and surrounding areas for years. Exploiting this opportunity, professional and amateur hunters from Pabna and neighboring districts hunt these birds and openly sell them. In response, the Pabna Administration and several social organizations, including Tarunner Agrajatra Foundation, have been actively working to address this issue. The NSI has been providing critical information to support these efforts.
