A businessman was shot to death by miscreants in Raozan upazila of Chattogram this afternoon.
The deceased is Md Jahangir of Niramishpara of Noapara village in the same upazila.
Jahangir, owner of a community centre in Noapara and also a dealer of dry fish, lived in Chattogram city, said police and locals.
Saiful Islam, superintendent of police in Chattogram, said Jahangir along with two other companions was going to Noapara on his motorbike from the port city this afternoon.
When they reached Asad Ali Matbar Bari at Noapara village around 1:00pm, miscreants intercepted Jahangir and shot him, said the SP.
When his companions tried to save him, the miscreants also hit them with sticks, said the SP, adding that when locals approached to resist the miscreants, they fled the scene with motorbikes.
Critically injured Jahangir was rushed to a private hospital where doctors declared him dead, he said.
Police launched an investigation into the incident and are conducting drives to arrest the criminals, the police official added.
