The mausoleum of former prime minister and BNP Chairperson Begum Khaleda Zia has been opened to the public, allowing people to pay their respects.
The site was made accessible around 12pm on Thursday at Zia Udyan in the capital’s Sher-e-Bangla Nagar.
Since the morning, party leaders, activists, and members of the public had gathered near the entrance at Bijoy Sarani intersection to offer tributes. Many waited behind barricades as the park remained closed due to ongoing renovation work, while some stood on the roadside to offer prayers.
Authorities have now reopened the entire park, with police and members of other law enforcement agencies deployed to maintain security.
Begum Khaleda Zia passed away in the early hours of Tuesday while receiving treatment at Evercare Hospital. She was laid to rest with state honours beside the grave of martyred President Ziaur Rahman following her namaz-e-janaza on Wednesday.
