A businessman was shot dead by an armed assailant in Old Dhaka's Shyambazar area this afternoon.
The deceased, Abdur Rahman, 55, was the former president of the Shyambazar Kachabazar Traders' Association.
The shooting took place around noon in front of Maula Buksh Sarder Eye Hospital in Shyambazar.
Critically injured, Rahman was rushed to the emergency department of Sir Salimullah Medical College and Mitford Hospital by pedestrians, where doctors declared him dead around 1:30pm, said Motiur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Sutrapur Police Station.
