Comprising 18 political parties, the new National Democratic Front (NDF) saw several factions of Jatiya Party come together notably with Anisul Islam Mahmud and Anwar Hossain Manju joining hands.
Announcing the formation of the new alliance at Emmanuelle's Party Centre in Dhaka, former MP and minister, Anisul Islam Mahmud said the front includes six registered and 12 unregistered parties.
He said this new coalition would advance Bangladesh's genuine democratic transformation, build a national consensus to overcome the prevailing political crisis, uphold the spirit of the Liberation War, and carry forward the aspirations of the July uprising.
"The alliance aims to push for necessary state reforms, end fascism, and amplify the weak voices of people yearning for good governance," he added.
Chair of his faction of Jatiya Party, Anwar Hossain Manju, spoke as chief guest.
The opening remarks were delivered by Ruhul Amin Howlader, secretary general of Anisul Islam's Jatiya Party.
