A complaint was filed against two employees of the Chattogram Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (CWasa) for allegedly embezzling Tk 25 lakh in customers' bills.
Lutfe Jahan, a computer programmer at the state agency, filed the complaint with the Chawkbazar Police Station in the port city today.
The accused, Azmir Hossain and Mithun Gosh, are both data entry operators at CWasa. They were handed over to the police yesterday after CWasa authorities uncovered primary evidence of the embezzlement.
"A complaint was lodged by CWasa at around 1:00am. We have already detained the two accused and are preparing to send them to court for further action," said Zahidul Kabir, officer-in-charge of the Chawkbazar Police Station.
A CWasa official said that the two accused embezzled money from the arrears bill fund.
"They embezzled the money without depositing it into CWasa's account," the official added.
