Why University-going Students Get Addicted to Drug

Published : Sunday, 9 November, 2025 at 1:22 PM  Count : 124

Public University is such a long cherished destination where the dreams of a student come true. After passing a life-sucking competitive exam, a student makes him able to pursue higher studies at a University.

Behind every student there are many stories of sacrifices. The very crucial institution of society—'the family' awaits for the expected success of the student during university life. Often the family does not even know that the bright university student with an innocent face is a chain-smoker.

Passing away all the dreams and aspirations, a student runs after a false Dopamine emission by taking drugs after being influenced by university seniors. Therefore they get addicted to drugs and often make chaos at the university campus and halls at night.

As the university campus is the safest place, the campus is restricted for law enforcement authorities without the permission of the university authority. The portion of chain-smoker students often make the campus unsafe.

Students say that the non-smoker fresher students get influenced by seniors at 'Gonorom' or other forms of grooming by normalizing and therefore influencing them to smoke or to drink.

A Journalism student of Comilla University Shohaib Hossain Alamin says to 'TFP' in this regard‚ 'Here the administration of the University has a significant failure to prevent drug addiction and trafficking. Also senior students are remarkably liable. They influence freshers to get involved with drugs through grooming processes or Gonoroom-culture at halls. However the University authority should take hard measures to prevent drug-addiction.'

In this regard, the proctor of Comilla University Prof. Dr. Md. Abdul Hakim stated‚ 'Ragging is the root of all the miscreant activities at the campus. When a fresher comes, senior-students make them frightened and make them upset. They also influence juniors to get involved with drugs. We have lessened the rate of addiction by taking initiative against drug addiction.'
