Attorney General Mohammad Asaduzzaman has announced his decision to resign from his post to contest in the upcoming national election.
“I will resign from my post and contest the election,” he said.
He made the announcement at a press conference held at the Attorney General’s Office conference room on Wednesday, following the appellate hearing on the caretaker government issue.
Asaduzzaman also confirmed that he has sought nomination from the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) to contest from the Jhenaidah-1 constituency, where the party has not yet finalised its candidate.
“I have asked for the BNP’s nomination, and I am hopeful of getting it,” he told reporters. “I am still serving as Attorney General now, but I will step down when the time comes to participate in the election.”
Before being appointed as Attorney General, Asaduzzaman served as the BNP’s Human Rights Affairs Secretary, a position he resigned from prior to assuming his current role.
