The government is firmly committed to promoting sustainable and environment-friendly technology to ensure a greener future for Bangladesh, said Adviser to the Ministries of Industries and Housing & Public Works Adilur Rahman Khan on Wednesday.
He made the remarks as a chief guest while inaugurating the country’s state-owned electric motorcycle brand ‘Atlas EV’, launched by Atlas Bangladesh Limited (ABL) at its Tongi factory in Gazipur.
The initiative, he said, is a reflection of the government’s determination to embrace modern technology, save foreign currency and reduce carbon emissions.
“Bangladesh is moving toward a sustainable industrial revolution. The launch of ‘Atlas EV’ is not only an innovation in technology but also a practical step toward green transformation,” Adilur Rahman said.
He added that amid the global energy crisis and climate challenges, the use of electric vehicles (EVs) is essential to preserve environmental balance.
“Atlas Bangladesh’s initiative will create a milestone in building a green economy and inspire young entrepreneurs to develop eco-friendly industries,” he said.
Highlighting the government’s ongoing support, the adviser mentioned that several policy initiatives have already been introduced to encourage electric vehicle production and use.
“The government is facilitating the expansion of clean technology industries. It will not only save fuel and reduce emissions but also open new investment opportunities in the domestic market,” he added.
Also present at the event were Industries Secretary Md Obaidur Rahman; Md Anwarul Alam, chairman of the Bangladesh Steel and Engineering Corporation (BSEC), along with directors, officials, employees of BSEC and ABL and dealers from different regions of the country.
The Industries Secretary said that with the launch of Atlas EV under a state-owned enterprise, consumers will now have access to high-quality and reliable services.
He added that this initiative will open a new horizon in the development of high-tech industries in Bangladesh.
BSEC Chairman Md Anwarul Alam remarked that the global demand for electric vehicles is growing rapidly and this timely initiative will make a significant contribution to the growth of the domestic industry.
Md Azibur Rahman, managing director of Atlas Bangladesh Limited, said, “We have started our journey with four international-standard models. On the day of inauguration alone, 120 motorcycles were sold. Very soon, Atlas EV will be available across the country through our dealer outlets.”
Under a partnership with China’s Zhejiang Luyuan Electric Vehicle Co Ltd, ABL introduced four models: S-100, S-90, S-80, and S-70, each designed for Bangladesh’s road and weather conditions.
The bikes feature liquid-cooling motors, graphene batteries offering 100–120 km range per charge, NFC anti-theft systems and water-resistant tires for reliable performance.
According to experts, this step by Atlas Bangladesh Limited is not just a new business venture, it represents the practical implementation of a green transition in Bangladesh’s automobile sector.
