Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan was honoured with his first National Film Award for Best Actor for his performance in "Jawan", at a glittering ceremony held at Vigyan Bhavan, today. President Droupadi Murmu conferred the honours.
Shah Rukh, who has been one of Bollywood's most celebrated stars for over three decades, shared the Best Actor title with Vikrant Massey, recognised for his acclaimed performance in "12th Fail", which also won Best Hindi Film.
Actress Rani Mukerji took home her first National Award for Best Actress for her powerful portrayal in "Mrs Chatterjee vs Norway", based on a real-life child custody battle.
Veteran Malayalam legend Mohanlal received the prestigious Dadasaheb Phalke Award, the highest honour in Indian cinema, for his illustrious career spanning over 350 films since his debut in 1978.
Actor Vicky Kaushal, who essayed the titular role in Sam Bahadur, was recognised with the Best Feature Film on National Integration award.
In addition, filmmaker Karan Johar won the award for Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment for his multi-starrer family drama Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani.
The 71st edition of the awards turned into a milestone evening for the Hindi film industry, with Shah Rukh Khan and Rani Mukerji both achieving their long-awaited first National Awards.
