Modhuban Cineplex, one of Bogura's modern theatres, has officially closed its doors. The announcement came Thursday (September 18) night, through a heartfelt Facebook post addressed to its loyal audiences, marking the end of an era for the region's entertainment scene.
Earlier in the day, owner Roknuzzaman Yunus had hinted at the closure in a statement to Channel i Online. By evening, the official post confirmed it, citing multiple reasons: "Dear viewers, Madhuban Cineplex has long been a place of joy and entertainment with your love and support. But sadly, due to a lack of films that meet audience demand, government indifference, soaring electricity bills, staff salaries, and other challenges, we could no longer sustain operations. With insufficient audiences year-round, we are left with no choice but to shut down permanently."
The post added that a cinema is not just a business but "a space of culture, emotion, and shared joy," stressing that the decision was deeply painful but inevitable.
Launched in 2021 with 336 seats, Madhuban quickly became a hub for blockbuster hits such as "Poran", "Hawa", "Priyotoma", "Toofan", and most recently "Borbaad". The theatre also hosted overnight shows to accommodate families traveling from afar.
Despite occasional success, Madhuban struggled outside festive seasons, particularly after the ban on screening foreign films. Ultimately, mounting financial losses forced the owners to close what had become a cultural landmark for Bogura moviegoers.
